History
Construction on the original lighthouse took place between 1806 and 1809, with 12 additional feet added in 1832.
J.P. Radan Muller, the first lighthouse keeper, was brutally murdered in 1815 by (reportedly by soliders from Fort York)
after refusing to share his bootlegged beer. The soldiers chased him up the staircase, knocked him unconcscious with a rock,
then threw him over the edge. According to legend, they then chopped up his body and buried the pieces over the grounds.
The two soldiers were tried for murder, but acquitted in 1815.
Pieces of a coffin and parts of the human jaw bone were discovered beneath the sand by another lighthouse keeper in 1893.
Hauntings
The sound of moaning can be heard on misty nights, while the apparition of a spectre is climbing up and down spiral staircase.
The apparition of man has also been seen wandering the grounds, as if searching for something.
