Singhampton
Mylar & Loreta's
County Rd. 124
Built: 1860s
Haunted: unknown

History
In the 1860s, a young man named Mylar settled in Singhampton and sent for his bride to join him. Sadly, Loreta's ship was lost at sea and was never seen again.

Hauntings
The apparition most commonly seen inside the restaurant is that of a tall, slender, middle-aged farmer. He has been seen pulling out a drawer from the sideboard, then closing it before dissappearing; standing at the back door, then dissappearing; sitting on a bar stool in the dining room; and peering out from the kitchen.

Staff have heard the sound of their name being called. Cutlery is often reversed at table settings, and kitchen items often go missing.

    History
The home's garage was built prior to the house, as part of the town's blacksmith shop. The house itself was built in 1880 (red brick, Victorian style) and was inhabited by a blacksmith and his wife.

    Eyewitness Account
"My family has lived in our home since January 1994. Our experiences began before we had even seen the house for the first time. The night before we were to tour the house, we drove out just to look at the outside. It was dark, so we all stayed in the car, looking out the windows. That night, my mom had a dream in which she viewed the house from the inside in detail - imagine how she felt when she walked in and saw everything the way she had dreamt it!

One night not long after we moved in (maybe a month or so) my parents both woke up at the exact same time. They both heard the sound of a child's footsteps running down the upstairs hallway. My dad got up to see what my sisters or I were up to, but found us all sound asleep. They were later told a story (source unknown) of a little girl who had lived in our house, and had drowned in Kempenfelt Bay.

I'm not sure who told them, or if the story is true, but it would explain the footsteps.

Also, many people who have sat at our kitchen table (myself included) have seen out of the corner of their eye, someone (I believe a man) walking up the front walkway to the front door. However, no one knocks, and when you go to the door/window, there is no one to be seen. I feel that this is Mr. McKinnon coming home after a long day's work in his shop. The hallway just outside my bedroom door has a very strong feeling to it - I always feel I am being watched - someone is there! A family member once said she thought she saw a person standing there. It is possible it was just her imagination, as she had just been told about my fellings on the area.

My sisters' bedroom is just above our living room. If someone walks across the floor, you can hear it loud and clear. My family members have heard someone walk across that floor when no one else is home. The TV has turned itself on, and the volume on the sterio has adjusted itself. One of our beloved pets, "Stinky" the cat met a sad demise one day in about 1997, and since then my mom and I have felt a cat jump on the bed, and walk across it while we are trying to sleep. Of course, there is no cat there when we look. We do have 3 other cats now, who often arch their backs and run for no apparent reason.

I understand that animals, especially cats, are very sensitive to the paranormal. My dog has also jumped up and barked at the pillows on my bed while she was sleeping at the foot of the bed. Again, I could see nothing. There was not much activity for a while, but recently (within the last week) several things have happened. One day while my family was sitting at the kitchen table, my sister's drinking glass moved about 6" across the table on it's own. One morning the bag that I take my lunch in to work was sitting on the table when my mom came downstairs. The next time she came in the room, it was sitting on the floor about 3 feet from the table. The next day, my mom set one of my dog's toys on the kitchen table. She turned around to face the counter, and the toy flew off the table at my mom's feet.

Last night, my mom and I heard a bang while we were sitting in the living room. We went to investigate, and found a box of doughnuts that had been sitting on the table was on the floor, still upright, about 2 feet from the table. (My kitties were nowhere near the table at any of these times). Apparently someone doesn't want us to put anything on the kitchen table!"
