MacKechnie House
173 Tremaine St
Built: 1843
Haunted: since 1800s
History
Built in 1843 for an Upper Canada settler named Stuart MacKechnie, the MacKechnie House temporarily served as an officers' mess for the Cobourg Militia in 1866.
Hauntings
The house's most famous apparition is that of a man in a kilt, with black shoes, atop the staircase leading to the 3rd floor. He is sometimes accompanied by the sound of bagpipe music.
The Rose Room is also know for its odd behaviour. Beds there often appear to have been slept on when empty, and the blankets must be smoothed out.
There is a cold spot near the bed, and guests have reported the feeling of being tucked in by unseen hands or hugged by a cold force. It's also not uncommon for items to go missing in the Rose Room.
The room's name comes from a strange pink light that hovers and travels past the room.
Other apparitions reported include that of a little girl in the library and an elderly woman in one of the guest rooms.
