Joseph Brant Museum
1240 North Shore Blvd E
Built: 1800s
Haunted: since 1873
History
Home to Captain Joseph Brant, an 18th century Mohawk Leader, the original home was built in the early 1800s. The home was turned into the Brant Inn in 1875, after Brant's death, then the Hotel Brant. The hotel was appropriated by the government for use as soldier's hospital in 1917, and was eventually demolished in 1927.
The museum as it stands today is actually a reconstruction of the original home. Built in 1937, it opened its doors to the public in 1942 as a one-room exhibit gallery.
Hauntings
Given the fact that the museum is located not far from a nurse's residence, it's not surprising to hear ghost stories from the nurses. The have seen the lights going on and off in the 2nd floor rooms, and in the attic space of 3rd floor. The apparition of a figure walking past a 2nd story window has also been reported.
Patrons of the museum have reported some strange observations of their own. The apparition of a woman wearing a white long-sleeved dress, with a veil that partially covered her brown hair, has been reported in the corridor.
A tape record was left running one night, as part of an amateur investigation. It captured the sound of rustling papers, a cupboard door closing, and of coins being dropped on a table.
