Inn at the Falls
1 Dominion St.
Built: 1870s
Haunted: unknown
History
The Inn at the Falls is actually a collection of seven houses that form a cul-du-sac. The main building was originally built as a private residence in the mid 1870's. Built by local stonemasons, the foundation walls of the main inn are over three feet thick.
In 1943 the home was converted to an Inn.
Two notable deaths have taken place within the main building. During the 1930s, a woman named Mrs. Kirk fell down the stairs. The fall killed not only her, but her unborn child as well.
A small, 40-ish woman named Jackie Niven, also died in the house.
Hauntings
When they coined the phrase 'never a dull moment' they may very well have been thinking of the Inn at the Falls.
Ashtrays have been known to fly off of tables; clothes have flown out of closets, only to dissappear and never be seen again; and pots and pans have been seen flying across the kitchen as if thrown in anger.
The sound of children laughing and giggling can be heard in the main hallway, while room 105 has a story of its own. The TV often turns itself on & off, and changes channels by themselves; the shower goes on and off by itself; and keys from other rooms go missing, only to turn up in the room.
It doesn't stop there, either. When it comes to apparitions, there are few vacancies.
A woman has been seen gazing out of the window of room 105, sometimes standing and other times sitting in a chair before the window. She may be the pregnant woman seen pacing back and forth in the hallway outside.
Another young woman, dressed in a white gown, with dark brown hair, is usually only visible from shoulders up.
Yet another woman - this time, small and 40-ish - dressed in blue-jeans and a red/white striped t-shirt, with shoulder-length dark brown hair, has been seen in the halls.
There are male guests as well who no longer appear on the register. An older man, dressed in gray pinstriped pants, black shoes, and a long black tailcoat has been spotted. As well, a tall, well-dressed man is often seen walking past the bar and into the bathroom, where he dissappears.
Eyewitness Account
"I wanted to go to the Inn to find out what it would be like on Halloween. When we arrived, we were supposed to be in room 105, the most haunted room in the house (supposedly). We were booked in that room for almost a year. Upon our arrival, we were told that it was not available and to take the room beside it. Room 107. I was very disappointed, but not for long. Even though it is a much smaller room. It made up for activity.
First there were the loud footsteps above us. I said to my husband, "how are we going to sleep with those people upstairs stomping as hard as they can, we cant. I rang downstairs to complain, only to be told that there is nothing or no one above us. It's the roof."
I brought my taperecorder with me. I left it on in the room while we went out for a couple of hours. When I returned, I played it, and you could hear the door, that was locked, open and then close very loudly. You could also here someone going through the drawers, opening and closing them. Needless to say. I didnt think this was a ghost, and complained and let the manager listen to the tape. She told me that, she was the only one on at the time, and that no one was up there, and nobody else could get into the rooms. SPOOKY
That night I decided to take the camcorder downstairs. The manager gave me a key to the dining room and drawing room, as they are locked at night. At 12:00 midnight I started down stairs, by myself. No one was around, everyone had gone home. I went to open the door to the drawing room, the door was open (manager said, she locked it) and so was the dining room. Actually, the dining room door opened on it's own.
1am, and a female voice, cheery, asked me how I was tonight. I answered fine, looking around, nobody there. I heard a noise in the dining room, which was pitch black. I started walking in and saw the silouette of a lady, walking toward me, I also saw some orbs. I got scared. Ran up the stairs and jumped into bed."
