Welcome to Haunted Ontario, a collection of the most haunted places in Ontario. Here you can find some of the most authoritative information available on the folklore, legends, and eyewitness accounts surrounding the ghosts, spooks, spirits, and poltergeists haunting our fair province.
ghost n. a spirit; the soul of a man; a spirit appearing after death; a dead person appearing again; spectre; semblance
Those of you who are regular visitors to the site will notice some big changes. I have actually reduced the number of hauntings listed, choosing to do justice to those hauntings that are truly deserving of world-wide attention, rather than just compiling another online hauntings index. Some pages are currently under construction, but everything should be up and running within the next month.
haunted v.t. frequented, infested, esp. by ghosts or apparitions
Going forward, I will be using three criteria to decide whether a particular haunting should be detailed on the site:
First and foremost, it has to be a damned good ghost story.
Second, there should be some historical details to explain and enrich the ghost story.
Lastly, I'm looking for eyewitness accounts to really bring the haunting to life. If you've got 'em, send 'em in!
poltergeist n. a mysterious invisible agency asserted to throw things about; a noisy ghost; mischievous spirit
I'm not out to prove or disprove the stories, and I'm not particularly interested in scientific investigations. They have their place, and their value -- just not here.
Haunted Ontario is all about the stories. I'm here to dig up those details that add an extra bit of fright. The true-life accounts that add a little colour to the night. The creepy eyewitness accounts that make you think twice before stepping into that darkened cellar.
Turn down the lights, generate a little atmosphere . . . and enjoy.
